Hearing Him Through the Word

Today we’re going to focus on hearing from the Lord through His Word. This is one of the main ways people can hear from the Lord. Reading the Bible and studying out the scriptures are a guaranteed way to hear what God is saying in any situation at any given time.

Hebrews 4:12 | KJV

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

This is a spiritual description of what the Word of God does in your life. All scripture is given by inspiration of God…Even Jesus told us of the importance of taking in God’s word. This is a spiritual description of what the Word of God does in your life.

II Timothy 3:16 | KJV

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

Matthew 4:4 | KJV

4 But he answered and said, it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Over my life I have picked up my Bible, began to read, and all of a sudden, I will come across a scripture, word or phrase, story, etc. that will just jump out at me! The Holy Spirit will begin to nudge me and talk to my spirit about how that word applies to a current situation that I am going through. It’s incredible that it can become alive.

A year or two later I can read that very same scripture and it can have a totally different application for a new situation that I am in. The word of God is multifaceted unlimited and knowledge and wisdom!

The Bible says ‘in the beginning was the Word’ – God is the Word and the Word is God, meaning if you read the word you were hearing the Lord speak! He speaks through the parables, He speaks to you when you read about the biblical characters, He speaks to you through the Psalms, and the book of Revelation, and every chapter and verse all throughout the Bible! The LORD‘s voice and His Glory is woven into every part of it.

Today, I want you to pray about what section in the bible the Holy Spirit wants you to read. Before you begin to read, I want you to prepare your heart to receive the voice of God through the words that you read.

Read the Scripture God has Given You: Begin to read what the Holy Spirit has given you.

If you need to, go ahead and read it again, read it with expectancy and wait for something to drop into your spirit.

Prepare to Listen: Grab a pen and paper and get prepared to hear from the LORD write down the things God reveals to you.

Pause and Wait: After you have read, pause and wait for the Lord to speak through what you just read. It may just be a knowing you have inside, it may be at the audible voice of God, or it may be something fresh you never saw before.

Write it down: Even if it’s just one word that has jumped out at you, write it down and begin to pray that God would reveal even more.

This is how you will hear Him through His Word!

Write What You Hear

Spend at least 5-15 minutes today reading the Word of God and ask the Lord to speak to you regarding what He is trying to say. No matter what don’t forget to Listen, Wait and Write!
